What CID thinks about institutions

  • Position statements are papers that say what CID thinks about different issues.

  • Each position statement has an Easy Read version.

  • This position statement is about institutions.

  • Institutions were places where lots of people with intellectual disability used to live.

  • People who lived in institutions had a bad time.

  • Large institutions in NSW closed in the last 40 years.

  • CID wants people to understand that institutions were bad for lots of people.

  • We want to make sure no one makes those mistakes again.

City of Ryde focus group

  • CID is running a focus group for the City of Ryde.

  • They want to know how to include people with disability in the community.

  • They want to talk to

    • people with intellectual disability
    • who are 18 years and over
    • who live or do things in the City of Ryde area.

  • Here are some things CID did in March.

  • CID members and staff went to an International Women’s Day event at UTS.

  • CID staff members filmed at a clinic in Ashfield.

  • They filmed ads for an eLearning series for health workers.

  • CID did training in Wagga Wagga and Griffith for people with intellectual disability.

  • The training was about supported employment.

Cancer Council working group for people with disability

  • Cancer Council is looking for people to join a working group.

  • A working group is a group of people who look at a problem and find ways to make it better.

  • The working group is about helping people with disability who have cancer.

  • People with disability often do not get good care when they have cancer.
