I don’t want to feel left out in this world.

I am Ella and I have intellectual disability.

A lot of people think that if you have intellectual disability you don’t have any value or deserve respect. But that just isn’t true.

That’s why I speak out, even though it’s hard. I push it because I want people with disability to be treated better.

I want what everyone wants. A good job, to get out into the community, see friends, and enjoy life. But it is not easy for me. 

The NSW Government needs to do more to be disability inclusive, so everyday things don’t have to be hard.

I want government communications to be accessible.

There is too much mumbo-jumbo on government websites. They are too confusing and use big complicated words. 

The NSW government has many good jobs. But what is the government doing to help people with intellectual disability get these government jobs?

Bus and train timetables are complicated and transport signs are hard to understand. I don’t want to get lost travelling around town. I want signs and timetables we can all understand. 

But if I do get lost I want support and help – not abuse. 

I want to feel I’m wanted in the community – because I should be.

I say to the Premier of NSW and the Leader of the Opposition that actions speak louder than words.

We need action from our leaders to make government more inclusive for people with intellectual disability and for all people with disability.

Disability inclusion needs to be part of all decisions the government makes and at the centre of government.

We want disability inclusion moved to the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

I used to be scared to speak up but now I have a voice.
