The NSW Election is Saturday 25 March.

We asked the parties and candidates what they would do about important things for people with intellectual disability.

CID’s election asks are a list of things we asked the parties to promise to do if they are elected.

These 3 political parties and an independent Member of Parliament answered CIDs Election Asks.

The Liberal and National parties work together.  They are called the Coalition.

The Coalition is currently the NSW Government.

Labor is currently the Opposition.

The Opposition is the party that is not the Government.

The Greens are a smaller party.

They are not the Government or the Opposition.

Alex Greenwich is an Independent.

This means that he is not part of a party.

He is the Member for Sydney.

We want a different part of the NSW Government to do the actions for disability inclusion.

Disability inclusion means people with disability are part of things like everyone else.

We think it should be the job of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

They are called DPC for short.

We think DPC can make disability inclusion happen in NSW.

The Coalition did not answer CID about making disability inclusion the job of the DPC.

The Coalition said they believe in disability inclusion.

The Coalition said Disability Inclusion Action Plans are 1 of the ways they support disability inclusion.

Labor does not support making disability inclusion the job of the DPC.

They said they will have a Minister for Disability Inclusion.

Labor said a Minister for Disability Inclusion will be a strong advocate for disability inclusion.

The Greens support making disability inclusion the job of the DPC.

Alex Greenwich supports making disability inclusion the job of the DPC.

People with intellectual disability have the right to information they can understand

The law says Government must give information that is accessible for everyone.

Accessible means information should be given in a way everyone can understand.

This includes Easy Read.

The Coalition will make sure that government websites and services are easy to access.

Labor will make government information that people with intellectual disability need in Easy Read by 2025.

Labor will make an Easy Read Style Guide.

Labor will get people with intellectual disability to help make the Easy Read Style Guide.

The Greens support accessible information.

Alex Greenwich supports accessible information.

The NSW Government must have more Government jobs for people with intellectual disability.

There are not many people with intellectual disability in government jobs.

The Coalition did not answer CID about government jobs for people with intellectual disability.

Labor said they would have a target of 5.6 percent of government jobs being held by people with disability.

This means 5 out of 100 jobs.

This will include people with intellectual disability.

It will also include people with other types of disability.

Labor said they will get Get Skilled Access to help make government jobs better for people with intellectual disability.

Get Skilled Access is a group of people with disability.

They work with other places to make inclusion better.

The Greens said they will make government jobs better for people with disability.

This includes for people with intellectual disability.

Alex Greenwich said people with intellectual disability should have 1 percent of government jobs.

This means 1 out of 100 jobs.

CID wants the NSW Government to make public transport accessible for everyone.

The Coalition will make sure that new transport would be accessible for everyone.

Labor will make Easy Read transport information.

The Greens will make a plan to make transport more accessible for people with disability.

Alex Greenwich supports making transport easier to use.

This includes things like:

• How to get tickets or an Opal card

• Train and bus timetables

• Making it easier for people to find their way

The Government should make a disability inclusion fund.

This would give money to:

• government departments
• local councils.

This money would be used to make disability inclusion better.

The Coalition did not answer CID about the disability inclusion fund.

Labor said they support the disability inclusion fund.

The Greens have not said if they would make a disability inclusion fund.

They have said they will give money to local councils for 2 disability inclusion projects.

Alex Greenwich supports the disability inclusion fund.

The NSW Government should make a Government working party to look at the Guardianship law.

A working party is when a group of expert people look into an issue.

Guardianship means someone makes decisions for you.

The Coalition did not answer CID about changing the Guardianship law.

Labor said they will have a working party to look at changing the Guardianship law.

The Greens support changes to the Guardianship law.

The Greens said this should include supported decision making.

Supported decision making means when you get help to make choices in your life.

Alex Greenwich supports changes to the Guardianship law.

He said this should include supported decision making.

The Government should do more training about intellectual disability for NSW Health staff.

They should give more money to the Specialised Intellectual Disability Health teams.

This will mean people with intellectual disability with complex health needs will have better support.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard responded to CID about health of people with intellectual disability.

He said NSW Health will keep working with CID to make health services better for people with intellectual disability.

He agreed that some people with intellectual disability need ongoing support with their health needs.

Labor said they will work with CID to make health services better for people with intellectual disability.

Labor said they will give money to Get Skilled Access to train hospital staff in disability inclusion.

The Greens want to make health care better for people with disability.

Alex Greenwich supports more training about intellectual disability for health staff.

He supports NSW Health having more specialised intellectual disability health professionals.
