Young Leaders focus groups

  • CID is running focus groups for young people with intellectual disability.

  • Young people are aged 15 to 25.

  • The young people in the focus groups help CID build a Young Leaders Program.

  • Young people have talked about times when they

    • Tried new things
    • Set goals.
  • We want to hear from more young people.

  • There are 2 more focus groups.

  • They are from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on

    • Wednesday 2 July
    • Wednesday 16 July.

CID staff at the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health conference

  • CID is part of the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health.

    We say the Centre for short.

  • The Centre works to make healthcare better for people with intellectual disability.

  • The Centre is having a conference on 3 to 4 July.

  • Some CID staff members will talk at the Conference.

  • Laura and Raylene will be part of the National Centre of Excellence Overview.

  • They will talk about what the Centre does.

  • Laura and Sophie will be part of the Driving Change: Advocacy on health for people with intellectual disability presentation.

  • They will talk about systemic advocacy.

  • Systemic advocacy means speaking up to change

    • Laws
    • Policies
    • Ways of working.
  • Manon, Ella, Mandy and Leonie will present about My Relationships Matter.

  • They will talk about sexual and reproductive health.

  • Reproductive health is about the parts of your body that make babies.

  • Ella and David will be part of the Palliative Care and Aging panel.

  • The group will talk about

    • Illness that happens as you get older
    • End of life
    • Palliative care.
  • Palliative care is a kind of health care that someone gets at the end of their life.

  • Laura and Raylene will present about Amplifying Inclusion Through Art.

  • They will talk about art and inclusion.

    • Origami.

CID out and about

Making organisations more inclusive

  • CID has services to help organisations be more inclusive.

    Inclusive means we can all be part of things.

  • We have workshops to teach people to write in Easy Read.

  • We can make information into Easy Read for organisations.

  • We can help organisations make plans to be inclusive.

  • We can do focus groups with people with intellectual disability.

    A focus group is a group of people who talk about their ideas and issues.

  • You can tell organisations you know about these services.

  • You can show them this website.

CYDA photoshoot

  • Children and Young People with Disability Australia works with children and young people with disability.

    We say CYDA for short.

  • CYDA is making new videos and resources for families of young children with disability.

  • They want families to be part of a photo and video shoot in Sydney on Thursday 17 July.

  • They want to take photos and videos of families with at least one child who

    • Has a disability
    • Is aged 0 to 7.
  • Families who are chosen for the photo and video shoot will get $200.

  • You can tell CYDA you want your family to be part of the photo shoot by filling out this form.

  • You have to fill out the form by 7 July.

Research about relationships and sexuality education

  • Researchers want to hear from parents and carers of young people with intellectual disability.

  • This research is being done by researchers at

    • University of Canberra
    • Western Sydney University
    • Australian Catholic University.
  • They want to know what you think about relationships and sexuality education.

Survey about NDIS Supports Rules and Lists

  • The Australian Government wants to know what the disability community thinks about NDIS Supports rules and lists.

  • Some people think that they

    • Are confusing
    • Are strict
    • Do not work for people with lots of needs.
