Our Patron Robert Strike

  • At our AGM we said that Robert Strike will be our new Patron.

  • A Patron is someone who supports CID by speaking up about the work we do.

  • Robert has been part of the CID Board for a long time.

  • Robert has spoken up about

    • Accessible information
    • Including people with intellectual disability
  • Robert says that it is important to work as a team to do great things together.

New projects at CID

  • CID got money for 4 new projects.

  • One of these projects is about Palliative care.

  • Palliative care is health care that happens when someone is sick and will die soon.

  • It helps people do things that are important to them.

  • We will make resources.

  • We will run workshops.

  • The resources and workshops will be for

    • People with intellectual disability
    • Health workers
  • People with intellectual disability will learn about

    • End of life planning
    • End of life healthcare
    • How to get good support.
  • Health workers will learn about how to talk to people with intellectual disability about palliative care.

Painting for Love and a Living

Making organisations more inclusive

  • CID has services to help organisations be more inclusive.

    Inclusive means something everyone can be part of.

  • We have workshops to teach people to write in Easy Read.

  • We can make information into Easy Read for organisations.

  • We can help organisations make plans to be inclusive.

  • We can ask people with intellectual disability what they think about the plans.

  • You can tell organisations you go to about these services.

Digital Champion jobs at Down Syndrome Australia

  • Down Syndrome Australia is hiring people with intellectual disability.

  • They are hiring people to be Digital Champions.

    Digital Champions will teach other people with intellectual disability how to be safe online.

  • Anyone with intellectual disability can apply.

  • You do not need to have down syndrome to apply.

  • You can find out more about the job here.

  • You have to apply by Tuesday 5 November at 5pm.

Foundational Supports

  • The Australian government wants to know what people think about Foundational Supports.

  • Foundational Supports are services you can access without the NDIS.

  • Children and Young People with Disability Australia are doing a survey about Foundational Supports.

    We say CYDA for short.

  • CYDA wants to tell the government what young people with disability need.

  • They would like to hear from young people with disability up to age 25.

Having a Say Conference

  • VALID is having a conference called Having a Say.

  • It is for people with intellectual disability.

  • Having a Say’s Got Talent is a talent contest.

    • Sing
    • Dance
    • Play an instrument
    • Perform in another way.
  • The Barbara Donovan and Sarah Guilfoil Art Competition is an art contest at the conference.

  • You can enter 1 drawing or 1 painting.

  • The artwork needs to be on conference theme.

    The theme is The Future is Ours!

  • You could win a cash prize.

Women in Social Enterprise Network

  • The Women in Social Enterprise Network is for women and non binary people who are leaders at a social enterprise.

  • Non binary people are people who do not feel like they are a man or a woman.

  • A social enterprise is a business that does good things for

    • People
    • The environment.

Screen Me

  • The Australian Department of Health has made some information about cervical screening.

  • Cervical screening is a medical test for people who have a cervix.

  • The cervix is a part of the body that is at the top of the vagina.

  • If you have a cervix you should have a cervical screening every 5 years.

  • You need to do this if

    • You are between 25 and 75
    • You have had sex with anyone.
  • Talk to your doctor if you think you need a cervical screening.

  • Women with Disability Australia has made information about leadership for women and non binary people.

  • They call this information a toolkit.

    This toolkit can help you learn more about being a leader.
