Young Leaders focus groups

  • CID is running 2 focus groups for young people with intellectual disability.

    A focus group is a group of people who talk about

    • their ideas
    • their issues.
  • You must be 15 to 25 years old.

  • We want to know how you like to get information.

  • We want to know what is

    • Easy to understand
    • Fun.
  • We will use what we find out for our Young Leaders project.

  • Our Young Leaders project is for young people with intellectual disability to learn what they want in life.

  • You will get paid $120 for coming to the focus group.

Health conference in Dubbo

  • Western NSW Local Health District is hosting a community conference about intellectual disability health.

  • The conference is sponsored by

    • The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health.
  • The conference will be on Thursday 6 November.

    People from CID went to the Disability Sexuality and Everything In Between Conference in Adelaide.

Making organisations more inclusive

    Inclusive means we can all be part of things.

Easy Read writing contest

  • There is a story writing contest for short stories written in Easy Read.

  • It is for stories written by people with disability.

  • There are 2 cash prizes for people with disability.

Cervical screening webinar

  • There are some webinars from the Centre for Disability Studies about cervical screening.

    A webinar is an online talk.

  • Cervical screening is a test done from the vagina to make sure you do not have cancer.

  • The webinar will talk about

    • What getting screened is like
    • What kind of support you might want
    • How you and your doctor can make the test more comfortable
    • Different ways you can do the test.
  • You can pick a date and time to come to the webinar.

Disability Community Leadership Project for LGBTQ+ people

Cancer research

  • Researchers from Flinders University and Cancer Council SA are doing a study.

  • The study is about making things better for people with intellectual disability who have had cancer.

  • They want to talk to all adults with intellectual disability.

  • They are looking for people to do one of these

    • A 60 minute talk with someone
    • A 90 minute focus group.
  • If you do a talk or focus group you will get a $50 gift card.
