The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health

  • The National Centre for Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health is launching on Friday 13 October.

We will say Centre for short.

  • The Centre will help people with intellectual disability have better health.

  • It will help by

    • Talking to people with intellectual disability about what they need
    • Talking with researchers about research that needs to be done
    • Talking with health care workers to make sure they are doing the right things for people with intellectual disability

Why we want the Centre

  • CID has been asking for the Centre for a long time.

  • The health system does not do a good job for people with intellectual disability.

  • CID did a campaign about making the health system better for people with intellectual disability.

  • A campaign is a big plan to show the government what we want.

  • Part of the campaign was asking for the Centre. The government listened and agreed.

  • The Centre will look into making health care better for people with intellectual disability.

  • The Centre will make sure people with intellectual disability are treated the same as everyone else by health services.
