Anti-Discrimination Act review

This is about the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act.
We say ADA for short.

The ADA is a law that says it is illegal to discriminate against people.
Discriminate is when someone treats you badly because of who you are.

You can be discriminated against for having a disability.

There is a review happening to make the ADA
- Simpler

- More useful

- Easier to understand.

CID will write to the review about how the ADA can work better for people with intellectual disability.

We want to hear about
- Times when you have been discriminated against

- What you think about discrimination.

We will tell some of these stories when we write to the review.

If we share your story we will not tell them who you are.

Young Leaders workshops

CID is working on a Young Leaders project.

It is for people with intellectual disability aged 15 to 25.

Testing new resources about women’s health

CID has made new resources about sexual and reproductive health for women.

Good reproductive health means keeping parts of your body healthy if you have a baby.

We are looking for women 16 years or older with intellectual disability to help us.

We want to make sure our new resources
- Are easy to read

- Have the right information

- Look good.

CID at the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health conference

Dr Helen Beange

Dr Helen Beange worked with people with intellectual disability.

In July she had her 99th birthday.

She helped other doctors understand how to work with people with intellectual disability well.

She studied health conditions that happen more for people with intellectual disability.

Dr Beange became a Member of the Order of Australia in 2004.

She has been a member of CID for over 50 years.

She still speaks up about health care needs for people with intellectual disability.
Painting for love and a living

Lauren is an artist at Studio A.

Studio A works with artists with intellectual disability.

Lauren has shown her art at the Art Gallery NSW.

She has made art works at corporate offices like Westpac.

Making organisations more inclusive

CID has services to help organisations be more inclusive.
Inclusive means we can all be part of things.

We can do focus groups with people with intellectual disability.
A focus group is a group of people who talk about

Study about obesity

Researchers at Deakin University want to hear from people with intellectual disability who are obese.
-
Obese means you weigh a lot for how tall you are.
-
They want to do 1 or 2 interviews.

The interviews will use art to help with communication.
