Annual Report for 2022 to 2023

National Centre for Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health

  • On 13 October the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health launched.

    We will say Centre for short.

  • The Centre will make sure people with intellectual disability get better health care.

  • CID has been asking for the Centre for a long time.

  • We did a campaign about making the health system better for people with intellectual disability.

  • Part of the campaign was asking for the Centre.

  • The government listened and agreed.

  • Our Board Chair Fiona McKenzie was the MC at the launch.

    She talked during the meeting and helped everything run well.

Parliamentary Forum

  • CID had a Parliamentary Forum called Intellectual Disability: Ending discrimination and embracing inclusion.

  • Many people from the NSW Parliament came to listen.

  • Fiona McKenzie was the MC.

    She talked about

    • problems people with intellectual disability deal with
  • Our members and staff spoke about

    • public transport
    • jobs
    • health care
    • the report from the Disability Royal Commission
  • Our CEO Georgina Reynhout said the community needs to change to be inclusive.

  • Parliamentary Secretary for Disability Inclusion Liesl Tesch MP spoke about what the government is doing for people with intellectual disability.

Easy Read Health Letters

  • CID made some Easy Read Health Letters you can use with your health workers.

  • You can share them with your health workers.

    They can use the letters to give you

  • The From Me to Us free workshop is for people with intellectual disability.

  • The workshop is hosted by Side By Side Advocacy.

  • The workshop is co-presented by a person with intellectual disability.

  • This workshop will help you

    • Learn how you can get help to make decisions
    • Speak up and make decisions as part of a group
    • Learn new group skills
    • Make sure all people in the group have a say
    • Respect group decisions.

Our Voice Our Choice podcast

  • Arron Fitzpatrick got a grant from CID.

  • Arron is using the grant to make podcasts about supported decision making.

  • Arron has put his first three podcasts online.

Printed Easy Read Disability Royal Commission Report

  • You can order a free printed copy of the Easy Read Disability Royal Commission Report.

  • The report talks about what the government should do to make things better for people with disability.

  • The report is in 12 books.

Transport for NSW survey

  • Transport for NSW is doing a survey about how accessible public transport is.

    They want to know what will make it better.

  • You can take the survey until Friday 17 November.

GeneEQUAL study

  • GeneEQUAL is looking for

    • Teens
    • Young adults aged up to 28
  • They want to talk about what you learned at school.

  • They want to ask what you want to know about genetics and health care choices.
