Dane – born to run
“I have a good life because I get out in the community.”
This video celebrates decision making made by a person with intellectual disability following their goal to run. It shows how Dane considers challenges and what matters most to him.
I was born to run and running clears my head and it makes me feel nice and free out there in the opening in the Nullabor highway. I enjoyed because it was the 90 miles straight long and you can look back and say that’s where I ran.
I have a good life because I get out in the community. I live by myself and also I come to my mum’s every Fridays. I go to the airport on Tuesdays for volunteer work. I like going dancing every Friday nights, going out for meals with my support people. On Thursdays I go to see Don my counsellor. I experienced depression that’s the black pit it’s got a ladder that I climb out and then the tick one is when I really have my good days. I do have a good support team, Shannon’s my support person who takes me out to places.
“Do you like to have a laugh or a smile? What makes you laugh?”
“Dane makes me laugh we have little inside jokes
Why would you like to support me.
You’re motivated and you’re inspiring but I don’t even think you’ve realized that that’s the way you come across to people yes it was a very big journey creating awareness to lots of families and who have got autistic sons and daughters.
Dane, nearly home. You tired?
No, I’m not tired.
you want to go again. You made it.
I felt very very proud and I felt very very happy.
it made me cry happy tears and I just see my son and the joy in his face. Well done.
Well done and welcome home.
