NSW election 2019: how political parties can support people with intellectual disability

21 January 2019

With the NSW election just three months away, CID is calling on NSW political parties to commit to action for people with intellectual disability.

Key commitments we want from political parties are:

  • Put people with disability at the centre of Government by creating a permanent Disability Inclusion Unit in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
  • Fund specialist intellectual disability mental health services across NSW.
  • Fund services to divert people with intellectual disability from the criminal courts into the NDIS.
  • Provide permanent funding for disability advocacy.

We have also asked for commitments on public transport, implementation of the review of the Guardianship Act and making sure that there is a service provider of last resort for people with complex needs.

You can see full details about the commitments we are seeking in Commitments sought from NSW political parties, election March 2019.

We are asking to meet with representatives of the political parties and will report on the commitments that they make in the lead up to the election. To stay up to date with our work, sign up to our email updates.
