I Can Decide How I Die
September 2026
This is CID’s I Can Decide How I Die framework.
It shows how people with intellectual disability can be supported when making decisions about dying.
Supported decision making is when someone helps you make more of your own decisions.
This framework was created with people with intellectual disability
How to use it
You can use this framework when you talk about making decisions with your supporters.
You can make decisions about
- what happens when you are dying
- what happens after you die
Supported decision making is about you being at the centre of your own decisions.
You can make more of your own decisions when you have things and people to support you.
We also have a framework for making decisions about grief.
