Speaking up in the Bush

  • Inverell is a town in country NSW.

  • They also made a longer video where they talk about their lives as well.

  • You can see the videos on our website.

NDIS Update

  • CID is watching the changes to the NDIS.

  • We are worried the changes might make it harder for people with intellectual disability to get support.

  • We are worried that some plans have already been cut.

  • CID wants the Commonwealth and NSW Governments to work together so people with intellectual disability get the right support.

  • We will advocate with the NSW government for services that help people with intellectual disability.

    • Stay healthy
    • Be part of their community
    • Make their own decisions.
  • CID will work with Inclusion Australia to advocate to the Commonwealth Government about the NDIS changes.

    • Charles Sturt University

What CID thinks about inclusion

  • We have written a position statement about inclusion.

  • A position statement says what we think about something that affects people with intellectual disability.

  • We want the NSW Government to make sure people with intellectual disability can get the information and services they need.

  • This includes

    • Information in Easy Read
    • Services that are easy to find
    • Services that are easy to use.
  • CID also looked at what the NSW Government is doing about the things the Disability Royal Commission said about inclusion.

  • There has been some work done.

  • We think there needs to be more done so people with intellectual disability can

    • Get the information they need
    • Get good jobs.

Other News

  • Have your say on Supported Independent Living.

The Australian Government is thinking about how to make supported independent living (SIL) better.

  • SIL is when people with disability live in their own home but get support to do daily tasks.

    For example making food.

  • The government has not made any decisions yet.

They want to hear people’s ideas about how SIL should work.

  • What people tell them will help the government decide what to do.

  • You can share your ideas until 13 September 2026.
